This courageous, enterprising young Australia captured the hearts and imagination of all who heard about her plan to sail solo, unassisted and non-stop around the world.
Before her departure, Panasonic’s skilled technicians trained Jessica in the use of the Panasonic products that would help her document the voyage and keep her in touch with her support team. Jessica’s 34 foot Sparkman and Stevens yacht was fitted with two DMC-FT1 rugged Lumix cameras, a DMC-FZ35 camera with high optical zoom, manual control and RAW capability, an HDC-TM200 video camera and four CF-30 “tough book” ruggedized laptops.
During her 22,000 nautical mile voyage that required her spending 210 days (and nights) alone at sea, Jessica used Panasonic’s rugged Tough Book to upload and send videos and photos to her website, as well as communicating with family, friends and followers on email via her yacht’s broadband satellite systems.
Panasonic’s Tough Books have also supported other well-known Australians in their journeys and endeavours. These courageous youngsters include Rex Pemberton, the youngest Australian to reach the summit of Everest ,and the “crossing the ditch” team of James Castrission and Justin Jones, the first to paddle a kayak across the Tasman Sea between New Zealand and Australia.
