Kid Witness News

Kids Witness News

This global video education programme is supported by Panasonic to encourage creativity, communication skills and team work in film making by primary and secondary school children.  Since the programme started in the U.S. in 1989, more than 130,000 children around the world have participated in Kit Witness News.

In essence, the programme encourages creativity based on real-life skills such as written and oral communication, working as a team, critical thinking and project management.  This provides a platform for both teachers and students to use as experimental learning and communication in the class room, based on the kind of technological support and potential offered by Panasonic products.

In the five-minute videos produced, students learn and apply skills such as scriptwriting, acting, directing, editing, critical assessment and dramatic story development in films focusing on categories such as drama, documentary, news and current affairs, animation, entertainment, music, science and technology, health, sport, comedy and the performing arts.

The mini-films produced by participants are submitted for judging in the annual New Vision awards.  The judging panel includes industry experts including Panasonic Managing Director Steve rust, The Campaign Palace’s Deputy Creative Director Ash Naidu, Film Director Khoa Do, INXS lead guitarist Tim Farriss, leading film editor Jane St. Vincent Welch and Kid Witness News Ambassador Toni Pearen.  Prizes are awarded for technical excellence in sound, editing, videography, concept and writing across State and National winners.
