Panasonic has unveiled seven new LED LCD VIERA TVs and three new LCD TVs.  For the first time, the range includes FHD 3DTV models – the DT30 Series of IPS LED LCD TVs, featuring Panasonic’s immersive 3D technology.

The entire range offers In-Plane Switching (IPS) panels, which deliver an ultra-wide viewing angle and high moving picture resolution for crisp, clear motion images.  Screen sizes include 42, 37 and 32-inches.

The new models are designed for the connected home, with a suite of ‘SMART VIERA’ functionalities. The DT30 and E30 LED LCD Series include VIERA Connect, which allows users to experience a host of exciting new features including catch-up TV, videos, music and internet radio, interactive games, and social networking. A VIERA Remote App allows the VIERA Connect TV models to be operated via an iPhone®, iPodTouch® or iPad™. It’s easy to operate key remote control features by sliding or tapping, and the smartphone keyboard can be used for quick text input¹.

The E3 and X30 Series of LED LCD TVs, and the U30 and C30 Series of LCD TVs offer ‘Easy IPTV’, which includes SHOUTcast Internet radio and Facebook via your VIERA TV. The top-of-the range FHD 3D DT30 Series uses an IPS LED LCD panel to ensure a wide viewing angle for the best picture possible.  It also features improved motion and for the first time offers 1080 line moving picture resolution with 5,000,000:1 Dynamic Contrast ratio.  Its high resolution and outstanding response mean these 37 and 32-inch models set the bar for 3D and 2D picture performance and provide the ultimate 3D gaming experience.

Panasonic’s new IPS Full HD LED LCD panels on the DT30 Series double the response speed to 200 hertz for a more uniform and rapid response to ensure crisp moving images with minimal afterglow.  The models also feature a wide viewing angle and high efficiency LED backlight to further reduce power consumption.

All models feature optional Wi-Fi and DLNA networking, so users can stream content that is stored on other DLNA-enabled products in the home network, to their VIERA TV.  USB capability allows viewing of movies stored on USB or HDD, simply by plugging directly into your VIERA TV. The DT30 and E30 Series offer the added convenience of USB HDD and SD Card recording from your TV.

The new range also offers VIERA Image Viewer with an SD Card slot for viewing AVCHD videos and JPEG images, and VIERA Link for simple operation of all compatible Panasonic A/V components using only the TV’s remote control.

SMART VIERA

Panasonic’s range of 2011 VIERA LCD TVs have smart features that bring a new dimension into the loungeroom, available at the touch of the remote. All new VIERA TVs are Wi-Fi capable and have an Ethernet port² and it’s easy to connect your TV to a wired or wireless LAN.

All TVs include ‘SMART VIERA’ functionalities. The VIERA DT30 and E30 Series offer the VIERA Connect suite, while all other Series offer ‘Easy IPTV’. All models have DLNA® networking, SD Card and USB capabilities, VIERA Image Viewer and VIERA Link.

The VIERA DT30 and E30 Series offer VIERA Connect, which allows users to experience a host of exciting new features including catch-up TV, videos, music and internet radio, interactive games, health and fitness apps, and social networking.

ABC iView and Yahoo!7's PLUS7 service allow viewers to catch up on their favourite TV shows, and users can also listen to Internet radio with SHOUTcast. You can now use Facebook and Twitter via your VIERA.

These join the already successful YouTube™, Bloomberg™, Picasa™ and Skype™ voice and video calling.

Expanding Panasonic’s cloud based IPTV platform, VIERA Connect Market has been launched, which will allow consumers to personalise their experience via a rich catalogue of apps from third-party application developers. VIERA Connect will be an open IPTV platform with its SDK/API available to application developers and its middleware technology available to connected device manufacturers.

For example, in the future, VIERA Connect will be your own personal trainer, featuring health and fitness apps from companies including Withings and BodyMedia. The Withings app, available now, offers the ability for users to measure and track their weight and body mass via an optional wireless scale – the Withings Wi Scale – which interacts directly with their Panasonic VIERA HDTV.  BodyMedia’s app is scheduled for future release and will enable users to wear an optional wireless arm monitor – the BodyMedia FIT Armband BW – that tracks steps, calories burned, heart rate and other vital signs, and wirelessly communicates them to the VIERA HDTV.

Applications can be downloaded from the easy to use GUI operation and users can customise their VIERA Connect menu by grouping commonly used apps and displaying them on the screen.

All other Series offer offer ‘Easy IPTV’, which includes SHOUTcast, Facebook, DLNA® networking, SD Card and USB playback, VIERA Image Viewer and VIERA Link.

DLNA® networking

DLNA lets the user play back content on their VIERA TV that is stored on other DLNA-enabled server devices within the home network.  These could include Panasonic Blu-ray Disc™ Recorders, DVD Recorders with HD Recording, PCs and network attached storage devices.

Simply by connecting to the Home Network, users can utilise a wide variety of content through accessing recorded programs, and files including DivX HD, MKV, AVCHD, Motion JPEG, MP4, and WMV formats.

For example, in a typical family scenario, the kids could be in the lounge-room watching the VIERA TV and viewing content from the Recorder’s HDD, such as a movie or TV program.

As the Recorder is connected to the home network, DLNA technology allows files to be shared across devices. So, if the parents want to go upstairs, relax and use the TV and Blu-ray Player in the bedroom, they can keep watching that movie, or look at photos and video from their latest trip, all accessed from the Recorder downstairs.

SD Card and USB HDD Recording

By simply inserting a USB HDD or SD Card directly into the slot on the DT30 and E30 Series VIERA TV, consumers can record content from their TV. Users can also pause live TV. The USB port allows for easy recording from the VIERA TV to an external hard disk drive.  Up to eight external drives can be registered for each TV. The Electronic Program Guide allows users to set a timer and record their favourite shows up to seven days ahead³.

SD Card and USB Playback with VIERA Image Viewer

All TVs also allow USB and SD Card playback of stored images and video. Simply insert an SD Card or USB into the VIERA TV’s slot to share memories with family and friends. Play back your AVCHD home movies, or enjoy images as a slide show on your TV. The SD Card and USB slot on all models supports DivX HD, MKV, AVCHD, Motion JPEG, MP4, WMV, JPEG, MP3, AAC, and WMA file formats.

Connectivity with other devices is further expanded this year on the DT30 FHD 3DTVs, with the ability to view 3D photos (MPO) and movies (AVCHD) shot by a 3D-compatible digital camera or camcorder directly from SD Card.

VIERA Link

VIERA Link – a technology that utilises HDMI-CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) allows a consumer to operate all VIERA Link compatible A/V components using only the TV’s remote control and helpful on-screen menus.

Superior image quality

Panasonic’s 3D LED LCD TVs feature its new IPS panels.  IPS panels are recognised throughout the world for their leading response time and energy-efficiency.

To maximise the advantages of IPS panels, Panasonic has made major changes to the panel production process, from the structure to the key materials used. The newly developed Advanced Pre-Charged Driving technology achieves the industry’s fastest scanning rate of 2 ms.

Crosstalk in the DT30 series is minimal, allowing for a solid black picture that maintains a broad gradation display, similar to Panasonic’s Plasma panels. The combination of reduced crosstalk and black colour quality allows Panasonic to deliver LCD panels with clear contrast, excellent viewing angles and high quality Full HD 3D pictures. These models also include ISF ccc Calibration mode. Once this is set by an image calibrator, the user can choose either ISF Day or ISF Night mode, which provides images that are gentle to the eyes and natural looking.

With 2D to 3D conversion on all new 3D models, Digital TV broadcasts, other recorded programs, BD/DVD media, digital camcorder images, AVCHD and AVCHD Lite footage and digital still camera images (JPEG, DCF compliant) can be converted from 2D to 3D.  Panasonic also offers a seven-step 3D adjustment function for viewing 3D images, to accommodate individual preference and viewing environment.

In response to customer feedback, Panasonic 3D eyewear now comes in three sizes; small, medium and large.  The eyewear can be worn comfortably with ordinary glasses and is USB charge compatible.

Environmentally designed

Panasonic VIERA TVs feature an Eco Control function via VIERA Link. This function automatically turns off connected devices when the TV is switched off. The Eco Control function can also automatically set inactive devices to standby mode to further conserve energy.
