The DMC-FX78 packages a f/2.5 Leica DC Vario-Summarit lens with 24 mm ultra wide-angle and 5x optical zoom(35 mm camera equivalent: 24-120 mm). The f/2.5 lens lets the camera shoot at higher shutter speed and capture clear, blur-free images in lower lighting situation. The 24 mm wide-angle lens captures approximately 213% larger viewing space compared to a normal 35 mm lens. The DMC-FX78 also features the 12.1 megapixel high-speed CCD and the Venus Engine FHD, with Intelligent Resolution technology and 6.5x Intelligent Zoom.

The Motion Deblur mode and MEGA OIS prevent blurring from both subject motion and hand shake. By activating Motion Deblur mode, MEGA OIS, Intelligent ISO Control, Face Detection AF/AE with Face Recognition, Intelligent Scene Selector, Intelligent Exposure and AF Tracking, the camera does all the work in the iA mode, so you get stunning images every time. And the Happy mode optimises colour saturation and brightness for vividly memorable scenes.

Create high-def movies at the touch of a button

The DMC-FX78 can record full HD 1920x1080 movies in AVCHD format with Dolby® Digital Creator. A dedicated button lets you instantly start recording movies without any having to make any extra settings. The iA mode is also available in movie recording. MEGA OIS with Active mode comes in handy when shooting while walking or playing with children. Both photos and movies in AVCHD format recorded on SD memory card are easy to view on a Panasonic VIERA TV.

Intuitive touch operation makes beautiful photos easy

With the 3.5 inch touchscreen LCD, Auto Focus is immediately set to the subject by just touching it on the LCD and you can even release the shutter. While playing back, you can create your own albums on the camera. The Beauty Retouch mode makes it possible to virtually make up the faces. Various effects can be applied to the face including clearing the skin texture and whitening teeth. You can also choose the colour of foundation, lips, cheeks or eye-shadow. The Art Retouch mode makes it easy to retouch colour effects to match your intent.

The 3D Photo mode produces a 3D image in the camera. The 3D image can be viewed in 3D via the 3D Image Viewer of a Panasonic VIERA TV, offering you a whole new exciting experience. The Lumix Image Uploader gives you a new form of communication by letting you share your photos (Facebook) and movies (YouTube). There is even an array of features that let you create beautifully expressive images, such as My Colour mode which renders highly unique expressions by matching the colours to your subject and surroundings.
