The KWN Inspiration Sessions are a new initiative in the 2007 KWN program and are aimed to help students to be even more creative and original in their submissions. The sessions are a practical, hands-on experience for students and were run by industry professionals Jack McCoy and Shane McLachlan in May.

Jack, one of Australia's best known surf film-makers (credits include Free as a Dog and Blue Horizon), provided creative advice for students and Shane, a Director and Editor with 30 years experience, offered students technical advice.

At the Inspiration Sessions, students gained first hand experience from Jack and Shane on the important aspects of film-making. This included, directing tips and editing advice, as well encouraging students to be more imaginative and original in the development of their entries. The Inspiration Sessions will help develop skills required to create a well-produced film and introduce students to new ideas and technologies.

Most of the sessions were held in one of the participating schools, and we would like to thank them for the use of their facilities, which assisted in ensuring the workshop sessions are a success.

  • Brent St Primary School, TAS
  • Mount Hawthorn Primary School, WA
  • Matthew Pearce Public School, NSW
  • Lake Munmorah Public School, NSW

This is the first time Workshop sessions have been organised as part of the Kid Witness News program, with plans to expand the workshops to all states and territories in 2008.
